KUCHING: The Sarawak Paintball Association (SPA) is jointly organising the Introduction to Basic Paintball Marshalling Course at BPP Paintball stadium (next to State indoor stadium) on July 25 to 26 and on August 31.
The facilitators will be from the Malaysian Marshals an organisation which deals in refereeing of any major paintball events in the country.
The three-day course is expected to be a great weekend of learning the basic rules of paintball refereeing to keep the game smooth and safe.
With more qualified referees in the State, paintball, which is relatively new to Sarawak, can be further upgraded.
Among the facilitators will be Junaidi Kalil, the pioneer of the Malaysian Marshals and also the manager of Asian Paintball Referee.
Registration fees for the course is RM50 per person where participants will have the opportunity to show themselves ready for the professional field of the sport.
Those interested to join the course can call Nizam Takip at 012-8750405 or Kamalia at 016-8561887.
Meanwhile, a 3-on-3 Paintball Kuching Cup 2009 will be held on August 1-2, in conjunction to the Kuching City Day, also at BPP Paintball Stadium.

TEAMWORK has lead the only Sarawak team to greater heights as they vie to bring back the MPOC glory to the State.

JEREMY VENO

KUCHING: PPS Syndrome, the sole team from Sarawak, ended in the fifth position after competing in the third leg of the division three category of the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit (MPOC) this week.
Gaining 155 points in this third leg has shown a tremendous improvement from
the 58 points that they gained in the second leg which placed them in the low at the 14 spot.
After two days of battle at the Xtion Paintball of Bukit Jalil on April 18, lady luck was not on the side of PPS Syndrome as they lost points to Bellicose from Pahang, who stormed to the semifinals and retained their second spot on the tables.
Also from Pahang, team Eastcoast broke into the scene of the third week and pulled up some magical feat to land themselves above the prominent teams in the first spot.
Another two leg remains with PPS Syndrome at the number four spot with accumulated of 378 points with Pahang’s Oscar Legio X as JB Syndicate and Eastsiderz from Terengganu maintained their respective positions in the division 3 standings.
A total of 40 teams from around Malaysia and Singapore took part in this circuit which was divided into three divisions. The Circuit, held over 5 legs, is recognized by the United Paintball
Federation (UPBF), Asia Pacific Paintball Federation (APPBF), Paintball
Sports Promotions (PSP) – USA, Millennium Series-Europe and Paintball Asia League Series (PALS).
Besides PPS Syndrome representing the State, three local marshals had attended the training to prepare themselves for the MPOC level.
Adding to the twist, two women marshals attended the course in this third leg also had proven a tremendous leap in lifting the standard of the paintball sport which is ever growing in our State.
The Sarawak Paintball Association (PPS) would also like to thank the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation for their endless support to make it possible for their participation in this MPOC.

PAINTBALL…how long can it last??

other sports is just a sport. we like playing it. we have fun. we sweat. but in most situation, we dont get into the game. we just go out and play. but to start the game, of course we buy few gears; for soccer, we will buy soccer boots. tennis, we buy racket and ball. hockey, we buy stick. basketball, we just go to the field, then play. what i mean is, it’s kind of easy to start any game/sports nowadays. but as I said, we are not INTO the sport. we jusy like it. we play. but our heart is not there. for some, YES.

for paintball, it’s not just a sport. it’s more than that. even when u read this article, u already start to think, “which category paintball falls into? sport? X-game? leisure? lifestyle? hobbies?”.. even when i went to bookstores in KL, I seldom found paintball magazine on the SPORT shelves. sometimes on lifestyle, sometimes on motorcycle shelves, sometimes it just appears on gun & pistol shelves. even the shopper dont really know where to display paintball magazines!
guys, look.. paintball falls under what category u want it to be. You choose. U decide from start. let say u play your very first game, what do u fell after that?

1) very damn excited. this kind of people will start to enter the paintball life.
2) im having fun. he will play again for 2nd or 3rd time with same feelings. the adrenaline stagnant. but he might turn into group no. 1.
3) hhmm.. ok la. but sakit sikit. this type of people, u just can see him play ocassionally. eg; family day, team building.
4) tak suka la. sakit! taknak la. ok, this one.. no need to talk la. he/she will be a bit richer than u who play paintball, of course! haha

ok, now u think what group are u in? are u the one who spend more than 3 hours daily on the internet, surfing “russian legion and dynasty or one gun with maximus”??
or are u the person who keep SMSing proshop salesman asking for prices and gears again and again, even in midnite??
or are u the one who enter hundred of paintball forums, searching for infinity information about this paintball world??

if you are this type of person, then you are falls into category no. 1.

attention to this group and those who want to join this group (i’m also in this category, and still survive! but tired swimming…). this is the time that all of us will decide our path in paintball. either we survive, or we sink. frankly say, I say this sport is F**cking sh*t! because everything is so expensive, BUT I already INTO this paintball, and keep looking forward to it. I cant stop or pause. Im getting more and more excited in paintball. and I guarantee, thousands of people out there is having the same feelings as mine.

from my opinion, to survive, we plan our expenses on paintball stuff. most people didnt plan so wise when it comes to paintball gears. as for me, marker, loader and tank is the most important things to have. these 3 things, last longer. tidak reput, tidak luntur, of course. but after a while, maybe we should change our loader bcoz of cracks, feedneck loose, etc. but that will happen after 3-4 years. marker? yeah, no doubt that all company producing markers never say that their product will last only for 3 months, or 12 months, or disposable (throw after you game!). everytime u buy markers, the body will last FOREVER!! tank? hydrotest after 5 years. no big deal. play as many as u like. but after 5 years, hydrotest.

ok, now you have marker, loader and tank. “meezee, if this is the expenses, how can we sink in this paintball games??” yeah, you’re right. everyone will survive in this game for quite a long time if this is the case. if we control our expenses wise and spend wise, we can stay longer. “meezee, u havent answer my question…” OK, OK… there will be time when u (that includes me) start to change your marker again and again as new products come by, start to change your loader again and again as new products come by and start to buy new tank as light as the new product come by until u get the lightest tank, the fastest loader, the most accurate marker in the universe!! yeah, im blaming myself for cannot control everytime i see new products coming in. this attitude is really really bad in paintball. this habits KILLS your interest in paintball. this culture will make u SINK and suffocate. u have to control this. this is not good at all. i saw many people doing this, upgrading their loaders, markers, tank again and again within short time of period. even 2-3 months before start tournament, they already upgrade their gears and they put away the stock one which they havent use! and then , after the tournament, they upgarde again. and so on.

it’s ok to upgrade. yeah upgarde means u want to have better markers, more comfortable, so u can shoot better and play better.

PLAY BETTER KA??? WHUT!!!???hello??!!… u automatically can play better if u use ego 09 ka? u can snapshoot better if u use droid ka? u can dive and slide better if u buy STAKO tank ah? so easy meh?? with money u can play better ma? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha… so easy this game. only rich people can win if like this.

NO! u cant improve your gamepaly and skill if u ONLY upgrade your markers. i repeat… U CANNOT. guys, wake up. stop upgrading nonsense setting on your marker. stop membeli membuta tuli barang2 paintball just by listening to others without experience it. players, marker gives u only 10%-15% chances of winning in the game. I repeat, 10%-15% chances!.. where are the 85% goes? aiya.. ini pun mau tanya ka?? u tengok Ronaldo main bola. dia punya boot rm600-rm700 punya harga ma. tapi u rasa kalau dia pakai boot harga rm150, u rasa dia punya performance drop ka? no way! ronaldo plays like he use to play. he will play as hard as he wears the rm600 boots. he play with skills and brain. that is how you should play paintball. improve your skills. learn more how to play in various position. learn how to handle pressure. but paling penting… ini betul2 paling penting… JOIN TOURNAMENT MA!!!! adoh… tidak guna beli barang mahal2 if u dont play in tournament. the pressure, the experience while playing in tournament is totally different than weekly training we play at our local field. dont waste you rm3000 marker in your car or store. use it. play like hell.

the time will come when we will have difficult time in life. we live in reality world. we have responsiblities. we have car to pay. we have credit cards to settle. we have house rental to pay every months. we have parents that we need to take care of. we have wife and children that we need to feed them and send them to school. all of this requires MONEY. when this time come to us, this is the time most of us fail to survive and sink. this is the time we regret to play paintball. then we start to question ourself “why I spent so much on this, on that, on loader, on tank.. bal.. bla..” we started to hate paintball. then, there you go….. no more paintball. dont blame paintball. u know it is an expensive game. not just expensive, but f**king expensive. blame yourself. u cant blame proshop for selling u with high price. they also want to have profits. dont blame field owner for selling expensive pellets. dont blame credits cards company for giving so much interest. blame yourself. you control your own expenses. YOU! YOU! YOU!

this is not a cindrella stories. this is dilemma. this is attitude. this is reality on what happen in paintball world. if only u decide wisely at the very beginning, u will survive and happy playing paintball for many many years to come. paintball is a promising game. with bright future. ONLY if we can choose the correct path for it.

NPPL just declared bancrupt. no more super 7, no more 5 mens NNPL.

so, guys… HOW LONG CAN IT LAST??

Storage and Handling Tips for Paintballs

We all interact with the environment. When it is hot, we find ways of keeping cool. Humidity makes hot weather sticky. In the cold, we cover up. Water freezes. There is no escaping the effects of the environment on our daily lives. So too for a paintball. It may be hard to visualize, but think of a paintball as a living, breathing thing. Let me explain…

The shell of a paintball is made with gelatin and glycerin. The shell contains very little water and is brittle. Both the gelatin and glycerine will dissolve in water. Since the shell contains so little water, it will absorb water like a sponge when it is humid. Cold air is relatively dry and will pull water from a paintball shell. Extreme hot and cold temperatures will adversely affect a paintball’s performance. Throw in high humidity at high temperatures and a paintball will give you more difficultly than a burr in a barrel. But the buck doesn’t stop at the shell. The paint is also water soluble and interacts with its surrounding(s) – the shell.

The paint does not contain water either so when the shell starts to pick up extra water, the paint starts to draw in some of the extra moisture. When things start to dry up on the outside, the water in the paint goes out the proverbial window as well. The whole situation adds up to a challenge for the most experienced heating and cooling technician – let alone a paintball player. Let me now give you some practical storage and handling tips for all weather conditions…

First I would like to remind you of the recommended storage conditions for most brands of paint. Optimum temperatures range from 59 to 86 F (15 to 30 C) and 40 to 50% relative humidity. Temperatures and/or humidities beyond either end of those ranges will adversely affect the performance of a paintball. The longer the exposure to these extreme conditions, the less reversible the effects. How long is too long? In very extreme conditions, 20 to 30 minutes exposure may be enough. An exposure of 45 to 60 minutes in moderate conditions will be sufficient. Humidity will have less effect if the paintballs are kept in the plastic bags and securely closed by twisting the bag and tightly sealing shut with the twist tie. Now here is what you can do at the field…

I think most players will agree, for a number of reasons, that the best time to play paintball is in the spring and fall. Temperatures are usually in the range of the optimum storage conditions and the humidity is low. So what happens in cold weather play?

Paintballs become very brittle in the cold. This is apt to cause breakage in the carton, loaders, hopper, barrel, and of course, on the target. While break- age on the target is preferred, anywhere else can be a mess. So keep the paint in a warm car while you are playing. Between games, store your butt packs, loaders, and hopper in the car. Refill your loaders just prior to heading out to the field. Keep in mind the exposure times mentioned above. Also, keep the paint sealed in the bag. If left in an open bag, the paint will dry out, adding insult to injury. Some people report an above average number of balls rolling out the barrel. This could be due to contraction if the paint is very cold. Choose a barrel diameter to suit the day’s conditions. Freezing temperatures and conditions will cause dimples to appear on paintballs. Dimples will not come out of a paintball. If you suspect paint has been frozen, throw it out. Do not confuse dimples with flat spots. Flat spots are often found at the bottom of case and do not adversely affect the performance of a paintball. If you find flat spots on paintballs throughout the case, it may be an indication of exposure to high heat or humidity.

In the heat of the summer, barrel breakage is rare. Breakage on target could also be a problem as paintballs get soft from the heat and humidity. So now we must keep the paint dry and cool. Room air conditioning may be good enough for the player but air conditioned air still contains 70 to 80% relative humidity. Keep the bags closed tight! If you begin to get a lot of bouncers, chill the paint in the refrigerator (not the freezer!) for 30 to 60 minutes – NO LONGER!. The air in the refrigerator is cool and dry and will condition the paint for use on the field. Between games, store your butt packs, loaders, and hopper in the air conditioned car (not in the trunk!). Refill your loaders just prior to heading out to the field. Keep in mind the exposure times mentioned above. Also, keep the paint sealed in the bag. If you cannot leave the car running, I would suggest keeping the paint in a cooler with a couple of ice packs. (Don’t use ice cubes or blocks because the bags may leak and damage the carton. Also, ice packs take up less room in the cooler allowing your to keep refreshments in the cooler.) Deformation of a paintball can occur when a paintball has been ex- posed to high heat and humidity. Oblong and odd-shaped paintballs will not return to their original round shape and should be discarded.

In conclusion, paintballs respond to the environmental effects of temperature and humidity. They get hard and brittle in the cold and soft and sticky in the heat. They breathe water instead of air. They are often temperamental and un- predictable like my golf swing. I hope the information I have provided makes sense and can be helpful in ensuring trips to the local paintball field are fun and trouble free as far as paint use is concerned. If you have any questions or comments about the above information or paintballs in general, please feel free to write back.

Play safe, play hard, and HAVE FUN!
