KUCHING – It would be a bleak Hari Raya for about 100 family members after their houses were razed in a dawn fire today at Kampung Tabuan Melayu.

Three families who were staying near the river were forced to jump into the river to save themselves as they were unable to go to the front of the house which was razed.

Two rows of houses facing each other were razed. The fire started in the centre of the 13 houses which was rented out. Due to the closeness of the houses, the fire spread to the opposite side.

A contractor said when he heard shouts of fire, he rushed out and forgot to get his RM60,000 cash which he collected yesterday. He said those houses razed were mostly relatives.

Most of the family members were unable to save their belongings as fire spread fast due to the strong wind this morning.

According to Kuching Fire Chief, Baharuddin Idris, the Fire and Rescue Services received a distress call at 5.40 am. Two minutes later they arrived at the scene and about half an hour later, the fire was under control.

He said the cause and estimated loss was still being investigated.

Three fire-engines from Tabuan Jaya, Padungan and Batu Lintang rushed to the scene to help put out the fire.

The Millennium Vision for Asia The Millennium Series is dedicated to the growth and promotion of the sport of paintball since 1999. Since that time the Millennium Series (www.millennium-series.com) runs the biggest tournaments in Europe and offers a platform for competition to the best teams of the world. Apart from running our own series, we support other tournaments, series and leagues, in Europe and worldwide on a global scale by various means.

This includes, but is not limited to providing knowledge, equipment and various other assets. In the Far East, the Millennium Series has been endorsing the PALS tournaments, which use our rules. The PALS ([url]www.palseries.org[/url]) has grown over the years amazingly fast, featuring their flagship event, the World Cup Asia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and having successfully hosted events in other countries, like Thailand, Taiwan and Philippines. In the last months the Millennium Series has been approached by a consortium of individuals and companies, who want to develop paintball in Asia as well.

During our recent London event the Board of the Millennium Series invited all parties involved to several rounds of meetings to learn more about their exact intentions and to explain our own vision for the development of the sport in Asia. What was clear was there was a lot common themes and aspirations by all and we sincerely hope that all concerned will see the benefits of collaboration rather than competition which will only help to slow down the growth of the sport in the region Basically the Millennium Series is asking all parties involved to find a way together towards our common goals.

 In a time, where support from within the paintball industry is getting less and less, it does not make sense to build parallel structures and organisations, which would lead to divide and fighting each other. Instead, existing structures should be used to accommodate the ambitions and totally justified strategic interests of other individuals, which have already shown commitment and constructive passion for the game, both in Malaysia and in other Asian countries.

If these parties manage to focus on common goals and strategies in a constructive manner, exciting times lay ahead for Asia, which is already the fastest growing region in paintball!

Festival RWMF ‘terlebih’ meriah

KUCHING 11 Julai – Festival Muzik Hutan Hujan Sedunia (RWMF) 2010 yang berlangsung mulai malam semalam tetap meriah dengan kehadiran kira-kira 5,000 pengunjung meskipun ketika ini demam bola sepak Piala Dunia masih belum lagi berakhir.

Edisi ke-13 RWMF yang dihadiri oleh peminat dari seluruh pelosok dunia kali ini menampilkan 20 pemuzik antarabangsa seperti Republik Cech, Indonesia, Columbia, Australia, Canada, Burkina Faso, Portugal, Itali, Jepun, Reunion Island, United Kingdom, Perancis, Peru, Rusia, Iran, Bulgaria, China, India dan Malaysia.

Meskipun cuaca hujan sejak pukul 6 petang hingga pukul 10 malam sebelum kembali hujan pada pukul 11 malam di kawasan Santubong itu, ia tidak menghalang RWMF 2010 terus mengambil slotnya di Kampung Budaya Sarawak dekat sini.

Malah, cuaca hujan itu telah menambahkan lagi keseronokan para penonton yang hadir apabila pada masa yang sama wujud sekumpulan pengunjung yang mengadakan ‘pesta mandi lumpur’ di tengah-tengah ribuan manusia di hadapan pentas utama berlangsungnya RWMF.

Ini kerana, ruang padang di hadapan pentas RWMF yang sudah becak telah digunakan oleh segelintir penonton memalitkan lumpur terhadap rakan-rakannya hinggakan keseluruhan pakaian dan badan mereka dipenuhi tanah.

Tiada perasaan segan atau malu untuk berbuat demikian malah pesta mandi lumpur semakin memuncak ketika kumpulan Watussi iaitu gabungan pemuzik Columbia dan Australia melakukan persembahan yang memukau.

Acara mandi lumpur seumpama itu seolah-olah sudah menjadi budaya kepada pengunjung RWMF memandangkan perbuatan tersebut akan berlaku terutamanya pada setiap kali berakhirnya persembahan untuk malam tersebut.

Terdahulu, kumpulan-kumpulan muzik yang melakukan persembahan adalah Debu (Indonesia), Bakih (Malaysia), Layatharanga (India), Bisserov Sisters (Bulgaria), Reelroad’b (Russia) dan I Beedi (Itali).

Sementara itu, acara pada sebelah siang turut menggamit kehadiran pengunjung yang mahu menyaksikan pameran dan jualan Kraf Bazar Hutan Hujan Sedunia 2010 di samping bengkel muzik oleh kumpulan-kumpulan muzik RWMF di Kampung Budaya Sarawak.

RWMF 2010 berlangsung selama tiga hari dan para pengunjung diingatkan mematuhi peraturan supaya tidak membawa sebarang makanan dan minuman daripada luar Kampung Budaya Sarawak.

Kebakaran di Matang,Kuching

Warga emas hilang dalam kebakaran

KUCHING 9 Julai – Sebuah kilang papan dan perabot di Jalan Matang di sini musnah dalam kebakaran pada tengah malam tadi.

Dalam kejadian pada pukul 11.45 malam itu, tiada sebarang kecederaan dilaporkan bagaimanapun seorang warga emas yang tinggal di dalam kilang tersebut dipercayai masih hilang.

Ketua Operasi Bomba Zon Kuching, Baharuddin Idris berkata, pihaknya menerima panggilan kecemasan pada pukul 12.15 tengah malam sebelum dua jentera tiba di tempat kejadian kira-kira lima minit kemudian.

Menurutnya, dua jentera tersebut masing-masing dari Balai Bomba Petra Jaya dan Balai Bomba Batu Lintang dengan kekuatan pegawai serta anggota seramai 18 orang.

”Sebaik tiba di tempat kejadian, api sedang marak, namun bomba berjaya mengawal api kira-kira 30 minit di samping dapat mengelak kebakaran daripada merebak ke kilang kotak bersebelahan,” katanya kepada pemberita di tempat kejadian di sini hari ini.

Katanya, seorang mangsa dipercayai hilang sewaktu kejadian tersebut dan usaha mencari masih dijalankan.

Katanya, bomba juga masih menyiasat punca kebakaran tersebut dan jumlah kerugian masih belum diketahui.

Kilang berkenaan telah beroperasi lebih daripada 10 tahun dan ketika kejadian terdapat 15 pekerja dengan tujuh daripadanya warga negara Indonesia berada dalam premis berkenaan.

Difahamkan, kilang itu melakukan kerja tambahan lebih masa malam tadi sehingga pukul 11 malam sebelum kejadian tersebut berlaku.

Salah seorang pekerjanya yang enggan disiarkan nama memberitahu, semua pekerja yang berada dalam kilang berkenaan hampir masuk tidur sebelum terdengar letupan kecil dipercayai litar pintas.

Menurutnya, tidak lama kemudian asap memenuhi setiap ruang di dalam kilang berkenaan menyebabkan semua pekerja cemas dan salah seorang daripada mereka telah mengetuk bilik warga emas yang berusia 67 tahun itu untuk menyelamatkan diri.

”Kejadian begitu pantas sekali malah asap tebal turut menghalang penglihatan kami dan tiada apa yang boleh diselamatkan lagi,” ujarnya yang terkilan tidak dapat menyelamatkan segala dokumen serta pasport yang musnah dalam kebakaran tersebut.

KUCHING ALLIANCE PAINTBALL LEAGUE 3, 2010

A total of six games per day will be held in a jungle scenario at Pasir Pandak and the five men per team competition is based on a two times defence and four times attacking format.
On the return to the paintball stadium, the game plan will be based on an urban scenario also with a two times defence and four times attacking format.
With both events being held at different locations, the organisers have decided to crown two champions for the different scenarios, awarding the champions the trophy and a total cash prize of RM1,000.
The second placed team will win RM700 while the third team will walk home with RM400.
Main sponsors for the event are the Sarawak Paintball Association, Borneo Paintball Scenario and the Borneo Paintball Proshop with support from the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation.
The competition is open to one division which will consists of 12 teams, the registration fee is RM450 (new team) and RM350 for team who have joined the first and second editions of the league.
Closing date for entries is June 12 and registration can be made through the Sarawak Paintball Association.
